There are scientific studies going back to 1982 that suggest a possible link between using baby powder with traces of asbestos in it and ovarian cancer. Also, a Reuters examination of released internal company memos at J&J indicated the company was aware as early as the early 1970s there could be a connection between their powder and cancer. They tested small amounts of processed talcum powder and some lots tested positive for traces of asbestos.

The Reuters study also determined the company withheld this information from the public and from regulators.
